FDA safety information page last updated in January of 2011 listed the following warnings and precautions:
- Lotrel should not be taken by people with a history of angioedema.
- Black patients who take this medication as well as other ACE inhibitors hive a higher rate of angioedema.
- Lotrel can cause fetal harm when taken by pregnant women. Speak to your doctor about the risk of fetal harm before you begin taking Lotrel.
- Caution should be taken when giving this drug to older patients and those with hepatic impairment. Speak to your doctor about any previous or current liver problems that have had before beginning treatment with Lotrel.
- Potassium supplements taken with Lotrel can increase the risk of hyperkalemia. If you are taking a potassium supplement or if you are considering taking a potassium supplement, talk to your doctor before taking Lotrel.

Lotrel | amlodipine and benazepril is a drug produced by Novartis Pharmaceuticals that is used to combat hypertension. Generally Lotrel is prescribed when other antihypertensive medications have failed to produce the desired result (lowered blood pressure).
