Warnings & Recalls for Lotrisone
- Hyptothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression (reversible), symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria may come as a result of systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids.
- Long term use of betamethasone has been linked (though rarely) to osteoporosis.
- Do not use Lotrisone for diaper rash. Adverse reactions have been reported in children who have been treated with Lotrisone for diaper rash.
Lotrisone Treatment and Use
Lotrisone cream is a topical combination of clotrimazole, a synthetic antifungal medication and betamethasone dipropionate, a synthetic corticosteroid. This medication is indicated in the topical treatment of patients 17 years of age or older for the following conditions:
- Symptomatic inflammatory tinea pedis (athlete’s foot)
- Tinea cruris (jock itch)
- Tinea corporis (ringworm) due to epidermophyton floccosum, trichophyton mentagrophyes, and trichophyton rubrum
It is not recommended that this medication be used on individuals younger than 17 years of age or for the treatment of diaper rash.
Lotrisone application
- This medicated cream is only to be used topically. Do not ingest this medication or apply it to open wounds.
- Begin by thoroughly cleansing and drying the area.
- Apply a thin layer to the affected area as many times a day as directed by your doctor.
- Do not cover the treated area with bandages or wear tight clothing over it.
