How does Plan B work?

Plan B is a tablet to be taken orally as soon as possible in the 72 hours following unprotected intercourse. If a patent is taking Next Choice, a second dose should be taken twelve hours after the first dose. If you vomit in the two hours after taking Plan B, call a doctor to see if a second dose is required. You can become pregnant very soon after a Plan B treatment. Continue using birth control or start using birth control as soon as possible. In addition to hormonal contraceptives, you should also use a condom or diaphragm during each event of intercourse within the same menstrual cycle as your Plan B dosage.
Plan B is available at pharmacies without a prescription to women older than 17 years old. Those younger than 17 must talk to a doctor to obtain a prescription for taking Plan B.
