Prevacid Side Effects
Prevacid | Lansoprazole has been shown to cause common side effects such as
- nausea
- stomach pain
- headache
- mild diarrhea
- constipation
Prevacid may also cause more serious side effects that can be symptoms of low magnesium:
- dizziness
- confusion
- fast or irregular heart rate
- jerking muscle movements
- jittery feeling
- watery or bloody diarrhea
- muscle cramps or weakness
- limp feeling
- cough or choking feeling
- seizures

Warnings & Recalls for Prevacid
Prevacid has been labelled with the following warnings:
- As of February 8, 2012, the FDA has issued a warning that proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medications may lead to an increased risk for Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD). CDAD is characterized by diarrhea that does not improve, abdominal pain, and fever, and anyone suffering from these symptoms should alert their doctor immediately.
- Patients who take PPI medications face a greater likelihood of breaking their wrist, hips, or spine than those who do not. This risk is increased with higher dosages, and patients who are 50 years of age or older.
- Avoid taking any medications containing sucralfate at the same time as Prevacid, as this can interfere with the body's ability to absorb Prevacid.
- Diarrhea associated with the use of Prevacid can result from a new infection, and patients should not attempt to use any anti-diarrhea medications unless they have consulted their doctor first.
Inform your doctor if you take any of the following medications, as they can interact with Prevacid and cause serious side effects:
- ampicillin
- atazavanir
- diurectics
- digoxin
- ketoconazole
- blood thinners, like warfarin
- iron
- theophylline
