Warnings & Recalls for Procrit
Procrit | epoetin alfa has received a Category C pregnancy classification from the FDA. At this time it is unknown whether Procrit can cause any harm to an unborn child, or if the medication can be passed through breastfeeding.Procrit has also been shown to cause an increased risk for potentially fatal cardiovascular problems, such as heart attack or stroke.There has been no voluntary recalls of Procrit at this time.
Procrit Treatment and Use
Procrit | epoetin alfa is a synthetic version of a naturally produced protein that helps the body in its production of red blood cells. Procrit works by signaling bone marrow, where blood cells are produced, to create more red blood cells.
In this way Procrit treats and helps reverse the effects of anemia that can result from Chronic Kidney Disease, as well as anemia brought on by chemotherapy for certain types of cancer. Procrit can also be used for the treatment of anemia caused by medications used to treat HIV.
Procrit | epoetin alfa comes in the form of an injectable solution which can be injected either under the skin or directly into the vein.
