Sandostatin LAR Treatment and Use
Sandostatin LAR | octreotide depot suspension injection is produced by Novartis Pharmaceuticals and is similar to somatostatin, a naturally occuring hormone that stops the production of growth hormone. Sandostatin LAR is indicated in the treatment of the following conditions in those who have already responded will to Sandostatin immediate release injection:
- patients with acromegaly who have not responded well to surgery or radiotherapy or those who don’t have surgery or radiotherapy as an option.
- severe diarrhea and flushing that comes with carcinoid tumors
- patients with VIP-secreting tumors.
Sandostatin LAR dosage
Sandostatin LAR is given as subcutaneous or intravenous injection every 4 weeks. Your first dose will be given by either your doctor or nurse in a clinical or hospital setting. You may later be shown how to administer Sandostatin LAR by yourself. Do not inject yourself until you are completely comfortable with the process.
