does not fall under any pregnancy category. If you are
pregnant,
breastfeeding or may become pregnant ask your doctor about the benefits and risks of taking Skelaxin.Before taking Skelaxin,
let your doctor know if you:
- are allergic to Skelaxin
- have liver or kidney disease
- have had liver or kidney failure
- have high blood pressure
- have anemia
- are taking any other medications
- are pregnant, breastfeeding or may become pregnant
- have any mental disorders
Skelaxin is a
high risk medication for the
elderly. Older patients may be more sensitive to the side effects of Skelaxin, which in rare cases can prove to be fatal.Skelaxin
should not be used by patients who are
allergic to metaxalone, have anemia or severe forms of kidney or liver disease.
Skelaxin Drug Interactions
While taking Skelaxin,
do not drink large amounts of
alcohol. Alcoholic substances may magnify side effects caused by Skelaxin.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends avoiding the use of any
medicines that may cause side effects of
sleepiness such as opioids, antidepressants and benzodiazapines while using Skelaxin. This may lead to
extreme drowsiness.

How Does Skelaxin Work?
Skelaxin is thought to relieve pain by interfering with signals in the central nervous system, changing the brain’s perception of pain. Skelaxin is not suspected to work directly in muscles.
Skelaxin Dosage Information
Skelaxin comes in 800mg tablets. Skelaxin may be recommended in different doses depending on the condition. Skelaxin should be taken:
- by mouth, 3 or 4 times per day
- with a full glass of water
- with food to increase absorption of the medicine and decrease side effects of an upset stomach
- for no longer than 3 weeks at a time
Avoid taking Skelaxin while eating meals that are high in fat. This may cause prevent Skelaxin from working correctly.
